Our whole life has always been built around family. Our story began in 2003 in our Freshman year of college at Mount Saint Mary’s University. Both athletes, Dustin playing baseball and Jessica running track, they had a lot in common. They ended up dating through all four of their college years and tied the knot in September of 2011.

When college ended, Dustin went on to play baseball professionally for 6 years. He also was a full time youth minister at St. Clement’s Parish in Lansdowne, Maryland for 2+ years during the offseason. The parish allowed Dustin to manage the youth programs remotely while away playing baseball. During baseball and youth ministry Dustin still consistently worked with aspiring baseball players giving private lessons / instruction because this was where his passion lied. When it was time for Dustin to retire from professional baseball in 2013, he went back to coach at Mount Saint Mary’s for 2+ years before fully committing to his growing private baseball instruction business. In 2020, Dustin officially rebranded, and debuted Pease Baseball Professionals. He has gone from doing lessons outside at local parks in Frederick County, to now providing 2 indoor facilities, and an outdoor field / cages for players to train.

After college, Jessica began her teaching career in Frederick County Public Schools. She also took classes at Hood College to complete her masters in Curriculum and Instruction: Special Education in 2015. Jessica taught for a total of 13 years in both 5th grade and special education for FCPS. However, in 2021, Jessica knew she needed a change, and applied for and received a job teaching at Saint John Regional Catholic School in Frederick teaching 3rd grade. She is now entering her 18th year of teaching.

Our children, Isabella and Carter, were born in 2015 and 2018 respectively. They have completely stolen our hearts and have given us a life full of adventure and memories. We value all of the time we are able to spend with them and especially enjoy going to the beach every summer and creating even more memories.

While there are many joys to being parents, there can be many challenges as well. On July 23rd, 2021 we were met with our biggest challenge. What we thought was just a regular trip to the doctor to have Isabella checked for suspicions of a UTI, ended up having us rushed for bloodwork, then immediately ordered to Children’s National Hospital in DC due to an extremely high blood sugar level. After a whirlwind in the ER, at the age of 5, Isabella was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. We were devastated by the fact that Isabella’s life would be changed forever, and that there was no cure. It was so difficult for us to grasp as well as have to learn the ins and outs of the disease in those next few days. We were thrown into an education that we had never experienced or knew anything about. Although we were scared and intimidated, we knew that we were not going to let Isabella down.

Even though the whole experience has been hard for all of us, it has taught us the value of family and friends, and all of the support around us. We have met some amazing families throughout the past 3 years who have been through the same experience as us, and they are now part of our support system. Our immediate family has stepped up to learn more and have taken part in managing Isabella’s blood sugar and changing out her devices. Even Carter has helped with device changes and carb counting! Throughout it all, Isabella has shown resilience and strength and has proven time and time again that she is the strongest little girl we know.
